Highly Qualified Program in Elementary Science and Math (5 courses)

  • Technology Driven Classrooms – Engaging the iGeneration provides K-5 teachers with methods and resources to enhance STEM related learning inside and outside the classroom through the use of mobile technologies their students use. One of the many goals of this course is to create iTeachers.
  • Core Science Concepts for Elementary Educators Part 1 focuses on using the five E’s (evaluate, engage, explore, explain, and extend) to teach physical science and earth/space science concepts as recommended by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA),  the state Department of Education, and school district stakeholders. This course also presents strategies for engaging today’s digital learners, as well as multiple resources that can be integrated into any classroom.
  • Core Science Concepts for Elementary Educators Part 2 continues with a focus on earth/space science, and then explores life science concepts as recommended by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the state Department of Education, and school district stakeholders. Educators become comfortable using technological resources and mobile technologies to enhance the science curriculum and improve the learning experiences of all students.
  • Core Math Concepts for Elementary Educators Part 1 covers key concepts in mathematical operations, algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten, and data interpretation as recommended by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the state Department of Education, and school district stakeholders. In addition, strategies for teaching these concepts using mobile technologies are included throughout the course.
  • Core Math Concepts for Elementary Educators Part 2 covers key concepts in fractions, geometry, and measurement as recommended by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the state Department of Education, and school district stakeholders. This course also includes strategies for engaging and motivating students with technology-based lessons that meet the needs of SLD, ELL, on-level, and gifted students.

  • Strategies for Teaching High School Math focuses on effective and engaging methods for teaching math according to the Common Core Standards.

Each series of cost-effective courses will prepare teachers to be highly qualified to teach the core concepts of science and math, which will better prepare their iGeneration students for a successful future. These courses are appropriate for current teachers, for teachers looking for employment, and for preparing teachers to be comfortable teaching STEM concepts at any level.
